Opinion Outpost Product Overview

Opinion Outpost is an online surveys site (similar to Swagbucks) where you can earn points for completing surveys. These points can then be redeemed for either cash via Paypal or gift cards to companies such as Amazon or Apple iTunes. As an example, you need 100 points for $10 via PayPal and 50 points for a $5 Amazon gift card. So is Opinion Outpost legit or a scam? I would say it is legit but not without it’s issues, which I will describe in more detail.

So once you sign up, you are asked to take a welcome survey, which earns you 5 points. This survey is for personal information (i.e. age group, income, number of members in household) as well as purchasing habits (i.e. type of vehicle, electronics owned). This also completes a profile and determines what surveys you will be eligible for.

From there, you can either take another survey or finish your profile. I chose to take a survey.

The questions were very random such as what papers have you read in the past week and what type of medical insurance you have. I found the below question odd as it was listed twice. Maybe it was an error in the survey.

I also found the below question odd. It seemed like the options were all over the place.

So I completed that survey. This was the end of the welcome survey so I went into my account and sure enough, the 5 points were there.

Below is an overview of the main page, which is user friendly. If you want to do a survey, simply click on the “Take a Survey!” button. I’m going to do another survey to see how long it takes to complete.

So after clicking the “Take a Survey!” button it brings you to the below page. This seems like a pre-screening for the surveys. Below are a couple examples of questions.

I completed that section and it finally brings me to the survey. It says that the survey will take 30 minutes. I’m going to do the survey and time myself to see how long it takes. It is a survey for J.D. Power.

So I completed about 6 minutes of the survey, which asked about my purchases of interior paint, exterior stain, and a vacuum. I then got booted and the below message appeared that enough responses had already been received for the survey. I did get 1 entry into the quarterly prize draw however.

Overall though, it was disappointing as I had spent a few minutes on the pre-screening questions as well for a total of around 8 minutes. It seems like you should get more for your time then 1 raffle ticket!

Pros and Cons of Opinion Outpost

  • The program is easy to join with no fees.
  • Website layout is user friendly and easy to navigate.
  • $10,000 cash give away every quarter that is simple to enter by just completing a survey. You are also entered if a survey is closed before you complete it.

  • Risk of surveys closing before completion. You do not earn any points for this.
  • Very low earning potential based upon the time required to complete the surveys.
  • Process can become boring and tiresome.
  • Membership is limited to United States residents only.

My Final Opinion of Opinion Outpost

Like most survey websites, there is a large time commitment required with very little reward. Even if I was able to complete the J.D. Power survey, I would have only earned $2.50 for 30 minutes of work. I’m sure you would agree that your time is worth more than a few bucks!

Another criticism was getting kicked out of the survey after only 6 minutes, including 2 minutes spent completing the pre-survey questions. I felt like that was a complete waste of time. I wouldn’t want to worry about getting kicked out of surveys all the time and not earning any money. They do enter you into the quarterly drawing for your efforts, so at least you get something. Overall, I would say the product is legit.

It is legit, however there are much better ways to make money online, especially with affiliate marketing.

I particularly like your last point aboit getting money in a better and faster way through affiliate marketing.

Is it that lucrative? I am still thinking about proceeding with creating a website but I have no idea what products should I buy.

Do you have any other advice? I have clicked on the wealthy affiliate link and I surprised to see there is such service to help new marketer.

    • Tony says:

Hello, yes affiliate marketing can be lucrative if you are willing to put in the time and effort of building out a website by consistently turning out quality content in order to drive traffic to your site. In my opinion, Wealthy Affiliate offers the best tools and training in the industry to allow anyone to achieve success in their online business. If you have any questions let me know. thanks!

I have joined various sites that are similar to Opinion Outpost but I got “screened out” a lot. Basically, you spend time taking quick surveys, to be told you don’t qualify.

It’s frustrating and a waste of time because you make zero cents/dollars.

Opinion Outpost seems OK, and could be the ideal ‘get paid to’ platform for the people who can qualify for surveys.

But these kinds of programs pay peanuts. Your #1 recommendation is so much better. 🙂

    • Tony says:

Hi Neil, yes a frustrating part of these online survey sites is getting “screened out” before completion, which is a waste of your time and you don’t make any money. As you said, even if you complete the surveys you are still getting paid peanuts. In my opinion it is not worth the time and effort. There are much better ways to make money online, especially with affiliate marketing. I hope more people will read my review and realize that creating a passive income through affiliate marketing is a much better use of time and more lucrative then the online survey sites. If you have any questions let me know. thanks!

  3. Dushan says:

I have been attracted to online survey sites as a means to make a little extra cash. Thanks for doing such a detailed review. I didn’t realise how many points you’d actually need before payout. Seems like it could take a bit of time!

Do you know whether personal information is kept safe?

    • Tony says:

Hi Dushan, my main criticism of online survey sites is the time commitment. Even if I had completed the 30 minute survey I would have only earned 25 points, or $2.50. So in order to get a $5 gift card, I would need to spend an hour completing these surveys. $5 an hour just does not add up to me as my time is much more valuable then that. There are certainly better ways to make money online, especially with affiliate marketing. Regarding personal information, I checked the Privacy Policy and FAQ section but did not see anything regarding their controls. My thought is that you provide this information at your own risk. If you have any other questions please let me know. thanks!

  4. John Rico says:

Hey there! I’ve been looking for a part time job online for a while now. I heard that survey sites give money just by doing surveys. I don’t have plenty of idea about this kind of stuff but Opinion out post got my interest. I tried swagbucks before and I already know how it goes. Which one do you think is better swagbucks or opinion outpost? Thank you for responding and sharing this information.

    • Tony says:

Hi John, thanks for the comment. I’ve tried both and in my opinion Swagbucks is better as there is more variety to make money then Opinion Outpost as you can also watch videos as well. Opinion Outpost is strictly surveys, which can get quite boring and tedious. Also, there is a chance that you get kicked out of the surveys before completing them, which can be frustrating. At least with Swagbucks you will not get kicked out of watching videos. Either way, online surveys are a lot of work for little reward in my opinion and there are better ways to make money online. If you have any questions let me know. thanks!
