Interested in selling your used clothes rather than just donating to goodwill? It is easier than ever to turn those clothes into cash! Learn how to sell your used clothes online for free with my top 3 recommended methods.
Facebook Yard Sale
There are numerous yard sale groups within Facebook now where you can find virtually anything you want. Chances are there is a group in your town or nearby, which is great since you will be selling to your neighbors and not have to worry about shipping.
All you need to do is type in your location then “yard sale” in the Facebook search field to see if there is a group in your area. For my example below, I typed in “walpole ma yard sale”, which displayed a group. If you can’t find one where you live, try typing in a nearby town or city.
Once you locate a group, you will most likely have to send a request to join as most of these groups are closed. This is easy to do by just clicking on the “Join Group” icon.
Once you click the “Join Group” icon, it will then change to a “Pending” status. Now you just need to wait for notification that your request was approved. Once approved, you can now create your sale post! Below is an example of a blank post.
To create your ad within the yard sale group select “Discussion” then “Sell Something”.
Next, type the name of the item in the “What are you selling?” field.
Under “Add price” type the desired price.
Next, enter your zip code.
In the next section, provide details about the item you are selling in the “Describe your item” field. I recommend being as descriptive as possible such as the size, brand, and condition of the clothing. You always want to be honest in order to build a good reputation within the yard sale community.
Finally, take a picture of the clothing and upload it under “Add Photos” Having an image will definitely lead to more sales as people like to first see what they are buying.
Once you’re done, just click “Post”.
Now you just need to wait for people to comment on your post that are interested. From my experience, you will receive a response within the first few days since your post will be at the top of the page.
Once you have a buyer, the next step is to confirm where the transaction will take place, whether at your home or in a public area. Many cities and towns have created internet exchange zones that are monitored by video cameras to ensure that transactions occur without incident.

Another method to sell used clothes online is through Craiglist, which is a free classified advertisement website that has essentially replaced the old print want ads. This is also a local site like to Facebook yard sale.
To access Craigslist, click on the following link.
From there, select the country or if in the United States, the area within your state, such as Chicago in the below example.
Once you select the location, click “post to classifieds.”
The next step is to select the type of posting. Select the radial button next to “for sale by owner”.
We will next choose a category. Select the radial button next to “clothing & accessories – by owner”.
We will then select the location within the city that best describes where we want to sell. For this example, we will select “city of chicago”.
The next page is where we will create our actual sale post. The first section is where you will add your contact info. It is recommended to add only your email address as your email will be masked when communicating with potential buyers. Add your first name under “contact name”. The “CL mail relay” button should remain selected as well.
The next section is where we will provide details of the clothing we are selling. In the posting title, provide a brief description of the clothing such as, “Vintage Leather Motorcycle Jacket Women’s Small“. Then add the price, location (city/town and state) and postal code.
In the “posting body” section, elaborate on the clothing such as, “Nice vintage black Harley jacket. Four pocket front. Very good condition”
In the next section, you can provide specific details about the clothing such as make/manufacturer and size dimensions. Also, the language of the post and the condition of the product. You can also link the ad to any others you may have by selecting the box under “include more ads by this user link”.
The below “show on maps” section is optional and will allow you to be included in map-based searches on craigslist. It will also display a small map on your post as well. Check the below box if you would like this to appear then input your address if you prefer.
Unless you would like to be solicited for products or services, leave the box blank under “ok for others to contact you about other services, products or commercial interests” then click “continue”.
The next page is where we will add an image. This is very important like on the Facebook yard sale site, people like to see the product they will be buying. Just click “Add Images” to add a picture(s) from your computer. Once complete, just click “done with images”.
This will bring you to the final draft of your post. Below is a sample post I created. If you are satisfied, then just click “publish”.
The next page states that Craigslist will send you an email with to complete one of the below actions. Check your email and select the link to publish your ad.
Congratulations!! Your ad should now be live! The ad will remain out there for 7 days and you can republish it after that time.
